Is the Traditional Learning Centre (TLC) the Right Choice for My Child?
A successful TLC student demonstrates:
• self-management and organizational skills
• respect for self, others, and the environment
• a willingness to take ever-increasing responsibility and ownership for their own learning (independent work within a structured setting)
• a willingness to participate in positive social interactions engage in problem solving and model good character
• a willingness to undertake a leadership role in the school, including citizenship and service
• a willingness to accept the challenge of a rigorous academic curriculum and an eagerness for knowledge and service

Benefits of the TLC Program:
• Character Education intentionally taught and reinforced daily and demonstrated through service to the school, local and global community
• Whole group direct instruction that is sequential and enriched as the primary teaching approach
• Students are provided with a structured, orderly setting appropriate to the learning activity
• Students are grouped by skill ability for language arts and mathematics.

Homework

Families whose children are in CBE TLC Alternative Programs of Choice have made the decision to support a program where a successful student demonstrates self-management and organizational skills and a commitment to daily homework. 

Division II (Grades 5 & 6) 

Formal assignments may be given at the discretion of the teacher, particularly for pupils who need special attention or help, but in general, assignments should be of the reading or study type. Parents should be made aware of the teacher's general requirements with respect to home study, and the CBE homework expectations, but no school requirement should exceed 20 minutes in length in total.

Division III (Grades 7-9) 

Students are expected to study from one-half to one hour per school night in total.

Assignment Expectations

Students are expected to submit assignments on time. If an assignment cannot be completed due to a reasonable situation, parents should contact the teacher to discuss arrangements. If at all possible, this should be done prior to the due date.

Parents are able to access D2L through their child’s username and password. This is where information regarding deadlines for major assignments and tests can be found. Many teachers also use this tool to post assignments and rubrics. D2L should be checked on a regular basis as a way to stay informed about what is happening in classes.
