Homework Guidelines We encourage our students to begin to practice good study habits by completing homework each night. The CBE does not endorse extended periods of nightly homework for elementary students. The policy recommends that students in Grades 1-3 spend approximately 5-10 minutes per night and students in Grade 4-6 should spend approximately 20 minutes on homework. If homework is assigned, the teacher will give a deadline for completion. If you find that your child is having difficulty completing homework assignments, please discuss this with their teacher.
There is never “no homework” because if students do not have assigned homework, they should spend some time reading. Parents are encouraged to read with their children nightly since this not only allows you to spend time together but allows your children to see the value you place in them learning to read. This dedicated time for homework and/or reading assists in developing the good study habits that they will need as they progress in their education.
Early Development Centre The Early Development Centres (EDC) supports pre-school children who have been identified with severe delays/disabilities. These may be delays in speech and language, social, emotional, or behavioral development, and/or physical/medical development. Through play in a language-rich environment, we are able to better prepare children for Kindergarten and beyond. Early intervention support is partially funded through Alberta Education’s Program Unit Funding (PUF). For more information about our program, please visit the Early Development Centre Preschool Program on the CBE website or call 403-817-7612.
