The junior (7–9) and senior high (10–12) programs share a common principle, many teachers, and other resources of the school. It is operated by the Calgary Board of Education. QEHS operates separately from Queen Elizabeth Elementary School, even though the two schools are physically adjacent to each other.

About the School
The original school was built in 1910 and has undergone a series of additions and renovations to keep it up to date. Besides its academic classrooms and a comprehensive library, there are 2 gymnasiums, a fitness center, an indoor climbing wall, 4 computer labs, theatre, band room, woods shop, and food lab.
