We offer a well-rounded, faith-based education in a caring, inclusive and nurturing community to meet each student’s unique needs. In addition to core curriculum programming mandated by Alberta Education, we are pleased to offer our students a variety of supplementary courses, options, and services in collaboration with our many community partners. The values of the Catholic faith permeate all programming options within Calgary Catholic schools.
Kindergarten
The Calgary Catholic School District offers kindergarten programming within a faith-based learning environment.
Young children are proven to benefit from programs that provide opportunities for organized activities and purposeful play through which they can explore the world around them. The kindergarten program focuses on seven areas of learning, including early literacy; early numeracy; citizenship and identity; environment and community awareness; personal and social responsibility; physical skills and well-being; and creative expression.
All Calgary Catholic elementary schools offer half-day kindergarten programs and depending on total kindergarten enrolment, we may offer a choice of morning or afternoon classes on a first-come, first-served basis.
Grades 1 - 6
A child who turns five years old on or before March 1 is eligible to register for Grade 1 in that fall of that same calendar year. For example, this means to register for Grade 1 in September 2017, children must turn five years old on or before March 1, 2017. The child’s birth certificate is required and one parent’s Catholic baptismal certificate is requested to be presented at the time of registration. Resident Catholic students transitioning from kindergarten to Grade 1 in the same school do not need to re-register for Grade 1. Non-resident students need to inquire with the principal of the school to determine if they will be able to register for Grade 1 based on available room and resources. Parents of students not previously registered at any grade level should call the school for an appointment to register.
ELL Preschool
The Calgary Catholic School District offers an English Language Learning (ELL) Preschool program for children who have minimal or limited English language skills in 12 of our schools. To enter the program, children must be between the ages of three and a half to four and a half years of age as of September 1. Parents are responsible for transporting their children to and from the preschool program.
St. Bede is pleased to offer this program during regular school days from 9:05-11:35 AM or from 12:35-3:05 PM
