We offer a well-rounded, faith-based education in a caring, inclusive and nurturing community to meet each student’s unique needs. In addition to core curriculum programming mandated by Alberta Education, we are pleased to offer our students a variety of supplementary courses, options, and services in collaboration with our many community partners. The values of the Catholic faith permeate all programming options within Calgary Catholic schools.
The St. Cecilia School hockey program is for students in grades 4, 5, and 6. The program focuses on skill development for students of all levels. Students have the opportunity to learn hockey skills, leadership, teamwork, and fitness. We follow the Hockey Canada Skills Academy program. The students are on the ice from 7:15 – 8:15 a.m. two mornings a week from October until May and they also have 1 session a week of dryland training at the school. If you have any questions about the program, please contact the school.
Hockey Canada supplies resources and training to our teachers which gives students an advantage as they develop their hockey skills. This program of choice is funded entirely by parents.
The Calgary Catholic School District offers kindergarten programming within a faith-based learning environment.
Parents and children will experience a Catholic educational setting which focuses on:
Registration starts October 1st and is ongoing throughout the school year. A child who turns four years old on or before March 1 is eligible to attend kindergarten in the fall of that same calendar year. The child’s birth certificate should be presented at the time of registration. Contact your local elementary school for more information.
Select CCSD elementary schools now offer full-day kindergarten. To register, your child must live within the school’s boundary area, turn four years old by March 1, 2018, and you must provide a birth certificate. For more information please contact the following selected schools:
Young children benefit from programs that provide opportunities for organized activities and purposeful play through which children explore the world around them. Alberta Education defines the instructional time for kindergarten as the “time where direct child-teacher interaction and supervision are maintained.”
Kindergarten students are provided with a minimum of 475 instructional hours each school year. The following 10 guiding principles provide a framework for kindergarten programming:
The Calgary Catholic School District believes in the importance of providing students with expanded opportunities to learn a second language.
We believe that language learning is an important part of a student’s education. Learning a second language greatly contributes to a student’s educational experiences, personal growth, and development of higher-level thinking skills.
French Immersion is a form of bilingual education. The Early French Immersion program enables students to develop functional fluency in French while ensuring they receive the advantages of an all-English program. Students are taught the curriculum mandated by Alberta Education using French as the medium for instruction. Students also have opportunities to participate in cultural events and extracurricular activities that enhance their understanding of the French language.
Students typically enter the Early French Immersion program at the kindergarten or Grade 1 level. This is because your child's progress in each grade will depend, in part, on the French language skills he or she has acquired in previous grades. No background in French is necessary to enter the program.
