We offer a well-rounded, faith-based education in a caring, inclusive and nurturing community to meet each student’s unique needs. In addition to core curriculum programming mandated by Alberta Education, we are pleased to offer our students a variety of supplementary courses, options, and services in collaboration with our many community partners. The values of the Catholic faith permeate all programming options within Calgary Catholic schools.
Hockey Canada partners with the Calgary Catholic School District to offer an exciting optional program for students. This program is offered at the elementary, junior high and high school levels in select schools. Students have the opportunity to learn hockey skills, leadership, teamwork, and fitness during the school day.
These programs are run by certified teachers with extensive hockey backgrounds. Hockey Canada supplies resources and training to our teachers which gives students an advantage as they develop their hockey skills. Students have on-ice training up to twice a week with one off-ice training session as well. This program of choice is funded entirely by parents.
Students will have an opportunity to work on their hockey skills while combining it with their regular academic day. In partnership with Hockey Canada, this skill-based program is now into its eighth year and continues to grow throughout the District. If you would like more information please contact Mr. Clovechok.
The Hockey Canada Skills Academy was developed to allow all hockey players the opportunity to improve individual skills separate from the team systems learned on their community teams. The main focus of this course will be Individual Skill Development and Improvement.
Instructor(s): Mr. Clovechok and other guest instructors
On Ice – All equipment worn by players during on-ice sessions must conform to Minor Hockey regulations (ex. Neck guards, mouth guards). Players who are not fully dressed in full equipment will not be permitted on the ice.
Off-Ice – Running shoes, shorts, T-shirts (St. Helena’s Gym strip is acceptable)
– Seasonal outdoor athletic clothing
– Hockey stick that can be used for ball hockey
The following Five Skill Sets will be developed in three phases throughout the year. Each skill set includes a number of basic and advanced skills.
Phase I: Skill Development (Sept – January)
Skills will be developed starting with stationary drills and working toward game speed.
Phase II: Skill Execution (Feb – March)
Practice executing skills at game speed in-game situations.
Phase III: Dry Land Training (April – June)
Further, develop cardiovascular and plyometric skills through activities and drills off-ice. This session will be held at the school gym from 7:30-8:30 am.
**All three training phases will occur on Days 2, 4 & 6 of the 6-day cycle.**
