In addition to core curriculum programming mandated by Alberta Education, we are pleased to offer our students a variety of supplementary courses, options, and services in collaboration with our many community partners. The values of the Catholic faith permeate all programming options within Calgary Catholic schools.
The Calgary Catholic School District offers kindergarten programming within a faith-based learning environment.

Registration is ongoing throughout the school year. A child who turns four years old on or before March 1 is eligible to attend kindergarten in the fall of that same calendar year. The child’s birth certificate should be presented at the time of registration. Contact your local elementary school for more information.
Select CCSD elementary schools now offer full-day kindergarten. To register, your child must live within the school’s boundary area, turn four years old by March 1, 2018, and you must provide a birth certificate. For more information please contact the following selected schools:
Young children benefit from programs that provide opportunities for organized activities and purposeful play through which children explore the world around them. Alberta Education defines the instructional time for kindergarten as the “time where direct child-teacher interaction and supervision are maintained.”
Kindergarten students are provided with a minimum of 475 instructional hours each school year. The following 10 guiding principles provide a framework for kindergarten programming:
Escuela St. Margaret is a member of the International Spanish Academy (ISA). Students enrolled in our Spanish Bilingual program will receive the foundation to become functionally bilingual by the end of Grade 12, if they continue in the program.
The Alberta Education Program of Studies is taught in all courses. Students in kindergarten to Grade 6 study 50% in Spanish and 50% in English. Subjects taught in Spanish immersion are Spanish Language Arts, Mathematics, Physical Education, Music and Art.
Students in Grade 7-9 receive 35% of their instruction in Spanish and 65% in English. Subjects taught in Spanish immersion are Spanish Language Arts, Mathematics and additional courses as determined by the school.
Students in Grade 10-12 receive a total of 25 credits in Spanish. Subjects taught in Spanish are Spanish Language Arts 10, 20 and 30, Mathematics 10 and Turismo 20.
The Spanish bilingual program allows students to gain insight into the Spanish language and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries around the world. Students receive a certificate of recognition from the government of Spain at the end of Grades 6, 9 and 12.
Previous Spanish experience is not required to enroll and parents do not need to know the language. Students typically enter the program in kindergarten or Grade 1. Students wishing to enter the program for the first time at any other grade level must take a language proficiency assessment.
