We offer a well-rounded, faith-based education in a caring, inclusive and nurturing community to meet each student’s unique needs. In addition to core curriculum programming mandated by Alberta Education, we are pleased to offer our students a variety of supplementary courses, options, and services in collaboration with our many community partners. The values of the Catholic faith permeate all programming options within Calgary Catholic schools.
The Calgary Catholic School District offers kindergarten programming within a faith-based learning environment.
Parents and children will experience a Catholic educational setting which focuses on:
Registration is ongoing throughout the school year. A child who turns four years old on or before March 1 is eligible to attend kindergarten in the fall of that same calendar year. Select CCSD elementary schools now offer full-day kindergarten. To register, your child must live within the school’s boundary area, turn four years old by March 1, 2018 and you must provide a birth certificate. For more information please contact the following selected schools:
Young children benefit from programs that provide opportunities for organized activities and purposeful play through which children explore the world around them. Alberta Education defines instructional time for kindergarten as the “time where direct child-teacher interaction and supervision are maintained.”
Kindergarten students are provided with a minimum of 475 instructional hours each school year. The following 10 guiding principles provide a framework for kindergarten programming:

Creating readers, supporting families and strengthening communities.
We collaborate with schools, families, professionals and community partners to support, facilitate and advocate for early literacy. We do this through programs and initiatives designed for children from birth to eight years and their parents, teachers, mentors, caregivers and communities.
BB4CK works in partnership with Calgary schools to make and deliver free healthy lunches for students who would otherwise go hungry.
Through the work of community groups and volunteers, we provide lunches for approximately 2,900 kids each day. Lunches are prepared in our main kitchen, and in various other locations by community groups including retirees, parent groups and local businesses.
Nourishment is available to any young person who arrives at school without enough to eat. BB4CK works with school staff members to identify needs and to plan how best to make sure hungry students get the nutrition required to think clearly and learn. By enabling better education outcomes, BB4CK gives students a hand up, not just a handout.
Each lunch costs only about $1 to make, thanks to the help of our in-kind partners. These partners include the Calgary Italian Bakery, Chongos Produce Market, Wholesale Club, Bles Wold Dairy, Calgary Food Bank and Mountain Meadows Food Processing.
Hundreds of volunteers
The work of hundreds of caring volunteers alongside our small and dedicated staff means contributions go directly toward feeding hungry kids. So when an individual or corporation makes a donation of any size, the impact is easy to calculate and the effect is immediate.
To work with Calgary schools to identify kids who are hungry and find ways to feed them.
Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids has one goal: no hungry kids in Calgary. We strive toward this goal each day by providing healthy lunches directly to kids, and by empowering communities to create lasting social change.
‘NSTEP Registered Charity (Nutrition, Students, Teachers Exercising with Parents) goal to prevent childhood obesity.
‘NSTEP Vision: To create a wave of health flowing across Canada, through families, schools, and communities.
‘NSTEP Mission: To educate and motivate people to EAT better, WALK more, LIVE longer.
‘NSTEP focuses on the whole school community, including students, teachers, and parents
We are very excited to pilot a new School Nutrition Program from the Government of Alberta Future Ready initiative. The goal of the program is to provide students continued learning about nutrition, as well as provide students access to a variety of nutritious foods throughout the school day. These food items would be provided to students at no cost. it is important to know that it is optional for students to participate in the food portion of the program and that families and students can select how much and how often they participate in the food portion of this initiative.
We know that good nutrition is an important part of a child's success in school. We are focusing on student wellness in a variety of ways, including daily physical activity, and our continued participation in the 'NSTEP program. This School Nutrition Program will be another part of our overall plan to support student wellness.
