We offer a well-rounded, faith-based education in a caring, inclusive and nurturing community to meet each student’s unique needs. In addition to core curriculum programming mandated by Alberta Education, we are pleased to offer our students a variety of supplementary courses, options, and services in collaboration with our many community partners. The values of the Catholic faith permeate all programming options within Calgary Catholic schools.
The Calgary Catholic School District offers kindergarten programming within a faith-based learning environment.
Young children are proven to benefit from programs that provide opportunities for organized activities and purposeful play through which they can explore the world around them. The kindergarten program focuses on seven areas of learning, including early literacy; early numeracy; citizenship and identity; environment and community awareness; personal and social responsibility; physical skills and well-being; and creative expression.
All Calgary Catholic elementary schools offer half-day kindergarten programs and depending on total kindergarten enrolment, we may offer a choice of morning or afternoon classes on a first-come, first-served basis.
S4 uses a strengths-based approach to help children and families identify the strengths and capacities they already have and can use to make healthy choices. Through the S4 Project, teachers and police officers in your children’s classroom are using a strengths-based model to help students build upon the skills and capacities that they already possess. As a parent, caregiver, or guardian, it is important to recognize your family’s strengths. By identifying and valuing strengths in your family, you can help your children develop a sense of success and confidence, enabling them to overcome life’s challenges. Family strengths could be things like, having positive and open communication, showing each other affection, participating in daily routines, or elements of your family’s culture and traditions. Our St. William School S4 Officer is Constable Staneke. He often stops in to visit with the students and is present for each school lockdown practice. Teachers are able to invite Constable Staneke into their classrooms to follow up on S4 topics.
Last year the Grade 4, 5 and 6 students participated in the Tell Them From Me survey. Feedback from our students indicated that they really wanted some noon hour clubs! Our staff responded with several clubs over the winter months that are listed below. This year clubs will be offered based on student request and staff expertise. Clubs may change based on need.
